ptahrrific: Cecil and Carlos with science in the dark (night vale)
Title: Always Fine (parts 1-5)
Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale
Characters/Pairings: Cecil(/Carlos), Earl
Rating: G
Disclaimer/warnings: Not my characters, just borrowing. Severe depression in part 4.

A series of five vignettes, each titled to reflect the episode they go with.

Cecil deals with, and/or tries not to acknowledge, the Carlos-related stresses brought up in various episodes. Earl does his best to offer food, friendship, and words of support.

( "I was worried you might have forgotten that you used to have hobbies — you know, bowling, wood-carving, making fun of the moon, that kind of thing." )
ptahrrific: Cecil and Carlos with science in the dark (night vale)
Title: A Dragon at the Opera
Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale
Characters/Pairings: Hiram McDaniels, OCs
Rating: G
Disclaimer/warnings: Not mine; no warnings.

In an alternate dimension of an alternate multiverse, Hiram takes a friend to see a show.

(Bonus ficlet from the His Dark Materials AU. Will be confusing and/or spoilery unless you've read through the end of Book 2.)

( "It sounded like she just called me a 'snack' instead of a 'creature'." )
ptahrrific: Cecil and Carlos with science in the dark (night vale)
Title: Our Quiet Little Town, Vol. I
Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale
Subject: The series in general
Rating: G

A musical recap of Welcome to Night Vale: one song per episode, for the first thirteen episodes.

When asked why a Wheat and Wheat By-Products Shelter already existed, the City Council answered, simply, 'Prophecy.' )
ptahrrific: Madoka preparing to take on Walpurgis (madoka magica)
Title: Winter Cleaning
Fandom: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Characters/Pairings: Sayaka & Kyoko, Homura, Mami
Rating: G
Disclaimer: MadoMagi characters and plot aren't mine.

Post-canon. Kyoko and Sayaka are having a hard time working together in battle. But when they get a shared opportunity to help Homura, they discover that under the right circumstances, they can make a good team after all.

( 'She can get herself killed for all I care. More grief cubes for the rest of us! But as long as she's part of a team, we're better off if she acts like it.' )
ptahrrific: Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you" (fake news)
Title: I've Got No Strings To Hold Me Down
Rating: G
Cast: Wyatt, Aasif, Jessica, John Oliver, Larry, Jon, various celebrity cameos
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Characters belong to the Report. Names of real people are used in a fictitious context, and all dialogue, actions, and content are products of the author's imagination only.

Third Monday fic for [personal profile] count_nickula. (On the AO3.) After Wyatt delivers his final TDS segment, he goes off to travel the world. But he will always be with his Daily Show friends in some form. Specifically, felt.

'This week has been awesome. Crazy awesome. But I gotta move on. The road just keeps calling to me, you know?' )
ptahrrific: Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you" (fake news)
Title: John Oliver's Infinitely Recursive Fanfiction Adventure
Rating: G
Cast: John, others
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Characters belong to the Report. Names of real people are used in a fictitious context, and all dialogue, actions, and content are products of the author's imagination only.

Based on a true story.

(The real-world John Oliver is advised to avoid reading this one, lest he rip a hole in the space-time continuum.)

AO3 mirror.

In fact...he had to scroll up and start rereading again, for purely fact-checking purposes, mind you. )
ptahrrific: Dorothy and Ozma (land of oz)
Title: From Gold Hill to Butterfield
Series: The Wizard of Oz
Characters: Shaggy Man, OCs
Rating: G
Disclaimer: It's all public domain now, but a hat tip to L. Frank Baum for the leg to stand on.

Fic written for Yuletide 2012. Turned out all my recipient wanted as an Oz fan was a Shaggy Man story, so I set out to write him some backstory. Takes place in a mining town in Colorado, starting in the 1870s.

The Shaggy Man's major quests are in The Road to Oz (tagging along with Dorothy) and Tik-Tok of Oz (searching for his lost brother). We get conflicting information about him -- thanks to a combination of his own tale-telling and Baum's famous retcons -- so this is written in imitation of the books' style, complete with loose concern for continuity.

( The shaggy-haired boy sat on a hard wooden chair outside the bedroom, kicking his heels in the dust. )
ptahrrific: Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you" (fake news)
Title: I Got 99 Problems, But The Truth Ain't One
Rating: Through PG-13
Cast: "Stephen", Jon, Olivia, Kristen, Wyatt, Al, Elliot, Neil Degrasse Tyson, liberal!Stephen, John Oliver, Jessica, Jimmy, Rob Corddry, Tad, Ed Helms, Sam, Jason, Patrick Stewart, Al
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Characters belong to the Report. Names of real people are used in a fictitious context, and all dialogue, actions, and content are products of the author's imagination only.

A compilation of single-sentence fics, written for prompt threads over several months until I cut them off after #100. Including lots of characters, various AUs, and two mini-continuities (one about "Stephen" recovering from an accident, one about his wife kicking him out).

Mirror on the AO3.

John declares his side to be Team Glasses, Wyatt counters by establishing Team Beard (and declaring Jon an honorary member), and they never actually get around to the game, what with spending most of the afternoon arguing which side gets to claim Al. )

Title: You, The Heroes
Rating: G
Cast: Jessica, real!Stephen, Olivia, Kristen, Wyatt, "Stephen"/Jon
Prompt: "Power" (with sub-prompts for specific superpower/character combinations) + "First meetings" (for the last one)

Sequel to the "Stephen" one: It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's...A Chair! Now with a mirror on the AO3.

It was harder to line up a couple to adopt her this time. People who believe in phoenixes at all, much less consider them lucky, are getting rarer and rarer. )

Title: PDA
Rating: G
Cast: Jon/"Stephen", Wyatt
Prompt: Public displays of affection

When Stephen was in complete denial, their interactions were bewildering, but at least all the stress was on him. )

Title: Shotgun
Rating: G
Cast: "Stephen"
Prompt: Characters' résumés

(This totally fits the prompt, because you just know Stephen would be very proud to list it as work experience, particularly for any tuxedo-requiring jobs.)

"I was born to wear a tux. In fact, as a child my parents used to rent me out as a ring bearer for shotgun weddings." (I Am America, 219)

Stevie loves weddings. He gets to wear a tuxedo, which makes him basically a grown-up. )

Title: Labor Day
Rating: PG
Cast: Jon/"Stephen"
Prompt: Worth

An extended version of how Stephen spent his Labor Day. (Stephen's wearing this dress, to make [personal profile] politicette happy.)

The back of the creamy-white gown scoops low under Stephen's shoulder blades, then explodes at the waist into a frothing mass of lace and sheer billows. )
ptahrrific: I want a girl with fingernails that shine like justice. (sailor moon)
Title: The Sunlit Millennium
Series: Sailor Moon
Rating: Teen. This is a Choose Not To Warn experience.
Characters: Mostly original, with a few canon faces dropping in.
Disclaimer: Unless you count in dreams, Sailor Moon was never mine.

Bits and bobs from a loose remix of the Xyll Saga, redone from the ground up to use entirely Egyptian mythology and take place during the Sailor Wars.

The fic will be split up into a series of connected stories, and I make no promises to cover everything, because the pressure is lower that way ^_^; Text will all be on the AO3, with links and background information indexed here.

Title: Ten Roads Converged
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: Happy!"Stephen", Stephanie, variations on Jon/"Stephen"
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Characters belong to the Report. Names of real people are used in a fictitious context, and all dialogue, actions, and content are products of the author's imagination only.

A redux of Eight Roads Converged: ficlets written by request about what happens when various fakenews AUs cross paths.

For [personal profile] politicette, Happy!"Stephen" meets "Stephanie"

I've accepted that whatever diabolical thing Joan did to claw her way into my heart, and also my shower, is not going to go away.' )

For [personal profile] politicette, Expectingverse "Stephen" meets Ratings-Grabbing For Two "Stephen"

George rubs his eyes and gapes in an exaggerated gesture he clearly picked up from his Jon. Not that he's as good at it as Marian, of course. )

For [personal profile] kribban: The Sword In His Mouth Jon meets Green & Grey Jon (with spoilers for both stories)

For [personal profile] ladyjaderains. Daemonverse J/"S" meets canon J/"S". (Same daemons as All Her Original Brightness.)

The fact that the portrait hole wasn't wide enough to let him and Avivah through together gave him the creeps right from the start. )

For [profile] elora_corrass: Alien!Stephen (the one that knocked up Jon in It Came From Beyond The Stars And Stripes) and regular Stephen.

'Come give me a hand with the transvorticinal thingamajigger, will you? It's out of alignment again.' )
ptahrrific: Madoka preparing to take on Walpurgis (madoka magica)
Title: But The Din In My Head, It's Too Much, And It's No Good
Fandom: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Characters/Pairings: Homura, Madoka, Mami, Sayaka, QB, OC
Rating: R
Contents: Violent imagery, self-inflicted injury
Disclaimer: MadoMagi characters and plot aren't mine.

Homura tests the limits of her body's ability to heal.

An even more psychologically-messed-up spin on MadoMagi than usual. For my [community profile] hc_bingo round 3 card, prompt "blood loss." Title is a Suzanne Vega lyric. Also on the AO3.

In what she will later acknowledge to be a less than auspicious first move, she starts by shooting herself in the foot. )

Title: Not Sure If Breakthrough
Series: TCR
Rating: PG
Cast: Jon/"Stephen", OC
Prompt by [personal profile] kribban: The personal notes of Jon and "Stephen's" marriage counselor.

Re-evaluated considerations re: abuse. Encouraged J to employ reality testing. )

Title: Snowflake
Series: TCR
Rating: G
Cast: Jon, "Stephen"
Prompt: An image (at the end)

One of Stephen's creepy dimensional portals must have been holding the thing, and was now discharging it bit by bit: enough metal to form the frame of a mid-sized pup tent, and in almost as complicated a configuration. )

Title: Pulpit
Series: TCR
Rating: G
Cast: "Stephen", family
Prompt: "Warning signs," specifically from [personal profile] politicette: "Something about baby!"Stephen" and how if someone (Charlene?) were paying more attention, they would have honed in on a specific incident or two and caught how miserable and unstable he was growing up to be."

Stevie's standing on tiptoes behind the pulpit, on the velvet-covered footstool used by the kids who get called up to recite a prayer or light an Advent candle. )
ptahrrific: (doctor whoniverse)
Title: Eight Weeks, Three Days
Series: Fake news, Doctor Who
Rating: PG (references to character deaths)
Characters/Pairings: Jon, Martha
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Martha belongs to RTD and the BBC. Names of real people are used in a fictitious context, and all dialogue, actions, and content are products of the author's imagination only.

Prompted by [personal profile] politicette: Jon has Martha on for an interview about her new book, The Year That Wasn't. Also on the AO3 and on Teaspoon.

'So when you describe in detail all the gory ways a human being can die after a few months without access to modern medical technology, there's actual expertise backing that up.' )
ptahrrific: I want a girl with fingernails that shine like justice. (sailor moon)
Title: Five (And Then Some) Heart Crystals The Death Busters Never Stole
Fandoms: Sailor Moon and crossovers: The Daily Show, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, His Dark Materials, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who
Characters/Pairings: Kaolinite, Eudial, Mimete, Viluy; Jon, Olivia, "Stephen"; Homura/Madoka; Lyra, Pan; Sharon, Roslin, Tory, Tigh; Four, Sarah Jane
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoils ALL THE THINGS, especially MadoMagi, HDM, and BSG.
Disclaimer: Not a single one of these series is mine. More's the pity.

What it says on the tin. Heart crystals that Kaolinite and the Witches 5 would have gone after, if only they'd existed in the same series.

Most of these involve AU versions of the crossover characters' canon settings. Just pretend those years and areas were the ones in which the Death Busters set up shop...and then ignore all the continuity issues that brings up ^_^;

For my round 2 [community profile] hc_bingo card, prompts "experiments by evil scientists" and "headaches/migraines".

'I'm Jon Stewart, and, folks, we have a fantastic program for you tonight. Our guest is Souichi Tomoe...' )
ptahrrific: Mountain at night icon (Default)
Title: Gimme Shelter
Fandom: United States of Tara
Characters/Pairings: Tara and the alters; canon pairings
Rating: R
Warnings: As with the show: deals with rape, child abuse, violence, language, bodily fluids.

Vaguely AU to Season 3, heavier on the listening and comforting, lighter on the shouting and gratuitous pseudo-violence. Also, with no alter!Bryce.

Instead of flailing around blindly when it comes to dealing with her system, Tara's trying to approach them with something like sidian3's 5 Steps to Cooperation (communication, reassurance, understanding, structure, and cooperation). Gimme-centric, but everyone gets their moments.

Written for my [community profile] hc_bingo card, prompt "major illness" (DID). Alice's book is Four Little Puppies (1935).

Tara walks their body to the local library, tries to listen to her instincts while they browse the children's shelf, and ends up with a stack of picture books sitting beside her at the window. )
ptahrrific: Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you" (fake news)
Title: Disney Magic
Rating: PG
Series: Pet Shop of Horrors/Fake News
Pairings/Characters: Jon, an Olberclone, D, ???
Disclaimer: #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. PSoH is not mine.

For [community profile] hc_bingo; master post with card. Takes place in the Eagle of Hermes universe, in the summer of 2009. Illustration here.

Mirror on the AO3.

Still trying to figure out how to bond with his newly adopted daughter, Jon takes her on what should have been a magical vacation. But when she gets overwhelmed by the heat, they end up taking refuge in a shop that looks mysteriously off-brand. Featuring quotes from Special Comments, various takes on mermaids, and a special appearance by T-chan while trying to be inconspicuous.

'That's because the sign at the store was trying to get parents to buy their little girls Ariel dresses.' )

Medium: Television
Fandom: The Colbert Report
Subject: P. K. Winsome
Title: P. K. Winsome's Finding My Niche: The P. K. Winsome Story

P. K. Winsome is a mystery wrapped in an enigma covered by a broad smile and topped with a 20% Off For Today Only sticker. He brands himself as The Black Republican, but most of his association with other right-wingers involves charging a fee to make them look more diverse. Oh, and he's possibly the only person with his name and face slapped on more cheap trinkets than Stephen's.

Honest conservative, or merely apathetic enough to stand next to them at rallies? Carrying out a deeply subversive Take That to the institutionalized racism in the establishment, or just out to make a quick buck? There are lots of ways to interpret this guy. Here's one.
