ptahrrific: Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you" (fake news)

Title: The Robert Report
Fandom: TCR
Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG overall
Disclaimer: On the chapters.

I like Bobby, he's underappreciated, and I wanted to play around in his head, so I came up with a one-shot about him. Then one day I was painting a house (it's a long story), which is monotonous work, and ended up plotting out a whole series.

In which Bobby manages the stage, the staff, and Stephen; the Report staff faces down a ghost; and we discover why the staff doesn't quit en masse, despite their boss' refusal to learn any valuable lessons.

Part of the Expectingverse.

Title: The Robert Report, epilogue: We'll Be Right Back
Fandom: The Colbert Report (the characters)
Genre: Comedy
Rating: G
Words: ~900
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: Bobby does one thing wrong and one thing right, and ties up some loose ends.

Alan's a nice guy. I imagine that he, like Bobby, is an expert at "not making Stephen mad". Table of Contents.

Bobby knows it can't last, but he sends a quiet prayer to Whatever Benevolent Deity Or Deities, If Any, Might Be Listening that it'll hold out just a little longer. )

Title: The Robert Report, part 6: The Closing
Fandom: TCR
Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG
Words: ~3,100
Warnings: Drunkenness. (No debauchery, though.)
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: And this part was written during an eight-hour car ride. I'm making up the Report's rehearsal schedule based around the idea that they broadcast live from 11:30 to midnight.

Bobby catches forty winks, Stephen knocks back several drinks, and the Ghost of Daily Show Past causes a big stink, bringing our heroes to the brink. Will they make it, do you think? (Don't blink.)

This is the closing referenced; but it isn't deeply involved in the plot, which also refers to comparing ears, failed pull-squints, Bobby's religion, a certain pillow, hurling candy, and, well, a whole lot of other things. Table of Contents.

Being at a bar with Stephen turns out to be just like being at work with him, except that there's dirty snow all over the floor and no convenient banks of seats in which to contain the audience. )

Title: The Robert Report, part 5: The Interview
Fandom: TCR
Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG
Words: ~3,100
Warnings: Creepy imagery; M. Night Shaaaaaahmalan ending.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: In which the studio is haunted.

Refers to this interview. For best results, I recommend not watching until you've gotten to the point in the fic where it happens.

Veronica the intern is named after Veronica Corningstone from Anchorman. (In my Report cosmology, all the fake newspeople are real.) Table of Contents.

Both Stephen and Bobby jump as the air around them wails with what sounds like nothing less than a crowd of tortured souls howling in agony, or possibly a sack of cats set on fire. )

Title: The Robert Report, part 4: The Second Act
Fandom: TCR
Genre: Comedy
Rating: G
Words: ~1,900 (they're getting longer!)
Warnings: Nope.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: I planned the details of this part between rapids. (Was whitewater rafting at the time; it's another long story).

Amora the chica's name comes from the old Spanish root that corresponds to the old French root of "Amy". The other chica is named Paolo.

Refers to Esteban's first appearance. When Colberto Reporto Gigante is referenced for the second time, it's described as something like "our Spanish-language sister program", so I wanted to reconcile that with the first time it appeared. Table of Contents.

'Señor Esteban, he also fears the bears.' )

Title: The Robert Report, part 3: The Wørd

Words: ~1,000
Warnings: Nope.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: Bobby gets to appear on the show in a scripted, planned, prepared appearance. For a little while, life is good.

Refers to this scripted appearance of Bobby's, followed by this Wørd. Table of Contents.

On the books, Bobby is vice-director of the Stephen and Melinda Gates Foundation. His job so far has consisted of designing the logo. )

Title: The Robert Report, part 2: The Opening
Fandom: TCR
Genre: Comedy
Rating: G
Words: ~600
Warnings: Still none.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: Bobby wonders why he puts up with this job.

This is what I had in mind as the original one-shot. It doesn't go with one specific opening, though it does make reference to the performance reviews. Table of Conents.

Bobby works for a man who is completely oblivious to his efforts, and who will get mad if you so much as accidentally pronounce the wrong 'T'. )

Title: The Robert Report, part 1: The Toss
Fandom: The Colbert Report (the characters), The Daily Show
Genre: Comedy
Rating: G
Words: ~900
Warnings: None, really. It's not even slashy at this point.
Disclaimer: The Colbert Report and its characters are the creation of Stephen Colbert, Eric Drysdale, and the other writers. Characters used without permission - but with love (and, more importantly from a legal standpoint, without profit).

Notes: The first fic I wrote in this fandom, back in the summer of 2006. When Rob Corddry guest-hosts The Daily Show, it causes some trouble in the Report.

The toss in question is here. Table of Contents.

Stephen's not backing down. (When does he ever?) )
