Mix - Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Till Human Voices Wake Us, And We Drown

Title: Till Human Voices Wake Us, And We Drown
Fandom: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Subject: Sayaka and Oktavia
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers, character death.

A mix for Sayaka's character arc as a puella magi, contrasted with Oktavia's arc as a witch. Heavy on the KyoSaya.

For my [community profile] hc_bingo card, prompt "drowning". Title from T.S. Eliot; cover from the blu-ray volume 5 booklet; rune font from the wiki.

(Sayaka's feelings for Kyosuke.)

Why can't I breathe you into my life?
What would it take to make you see that I'm alive?

If I was invisible, then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible, I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable, then I could just tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible...wait, I already am

(And then Kyuubey makes her an offer. Seriously, this is QB's theme song in general.)

I admit that in the past I've been a nasty
They weren't kidding when they called me kinda strange
But you'll find that nowadays
I've mended all my ways
Repented, seen the light and made a change

And I fortunately know a little secret
It's a talent that I always have possessed
And lately, please don't laugh
I use it on behalf
Of the miserable, the lonely and depressed!...

Poor unfortunate souls
Go ahead, make your choice
I'm a very busy person and I haven't got all day
It won't cost much
Just your voice!
If you want to cross the bridge, my sweet
You've got to pay the toll

(Magic! Miracles! Fighting to save others! Kyosuke regaining the ability to play violin! Life is good.)
This may be cheating, as I already used a cover of this song on another mix. But there's no better anthem for Sayaka in knight-of-justice mode.

Do you believe in magic in a young girl's heart?
How the music can free her whenever it starts?
And it's magic, if the music is groovy
It makes you feel happy like an old-time movie
I'll tell you about the magic, and it'll free your soul...

If you believe in magic, come along with me
We'll dance until morning till there's just you and me
And maybe, if the music is right
I'll meet you tomorrow, sort of late at night
And we'll go dancing, baby, then you'll see
How the magic's in the music and the music's in me

But, Sayaka, they didn't give you quite enough information...

Success has been so easy for you
But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

Don't, don't you want me?
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me

I don't want to care, and I don't want to hate

(The birth of Oktavia.)

The light has been gone far too long from your eyes
But you never changed, never played your part
And you have erased all the fear from your heart

The night's falling deeper in the heart
Hiding the truth and crashing down
My baby's a dancer in the dark

Your sight is dying, but you keep on trying to save your boy

I wasn't the biggest fan of Sayaka (and saw her downfall coming), so I was really surprised by how hard her ending and Kyoko's sacrifice hit me. So the commentary on the last couple of tracks actually got me a bit choked up. Needless to say, this looks fantastic, and I'm excited to listen to it!

Oh God, you used the runes. My inner (pfft, inner) geek is extremely happy.

Thank you so much for doing this! It looks wonderful and the songs you picked really fit. I adore this pairing, I'm so glad I ran into this.
