I was just starting to worry I was writing l!Stephen too much, so I'm glad he has fans!
This version of Stephen thinks that people should be more giving in general, so he's not likely to turn down gifts. In fact, his boundary issues come into play here, so that if you give an inch, he'll take a mile. (This is why Jon ends up drawing a lot of lines - "yes, we can hug, but that doesn't mean you're allowed to cop a feel, so don't even try it" - because Stephen won't see them if they aren't made explicit.)
That said, he gives a lot of outrageously amazing gifts. And he's prone to doing things that he thinks are helpful when they're really just weird. (Notably, the whole "wiping Jon's mouth for him" thing. Someone has evidently yelled at Stephen for being patronizing in the years between the first part of this fic and the last one, though, because he's gotten more self-conscious about it.)
People definitely feel awkward when it seems to be turning into a sort of cold numbers game ("one of us gives X, the other gives Y, then we're even") rather than natural friendship. Of course, contrasted with regular Stephen (who thinks he deserves all manner of trophies and accolades just for showing up), that might not be such a bad thing.
Meta enough for you? =P
More secret!Dom!l!Stephen is definitely on the way - you're not the only one who loves him ^_~
