The soundtrack for Truthiness And Relative Dimensions In Space.

1. Murray Gold, Doctor Who OP (2008)
Introduction/trailer music.

Instrumental.

2. The Smiths, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
A trapped, angry, lonely kid stumbles into the TARDIS. Who cares that it's probably run by illegal aliens? If Jack and Ten take him away, it'll be the best thing that ever happened to him.

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time

3. Savage Garden, To The Moon And Back (h/t [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust)
Adult Stephen, hardened and closed off, is still secretly hoping to be rescued. When Four and Sarah Jane land their TARDIS in his hotel room, he jumps at the chance.

Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one
They're saying, "Mama never loved her much,"
And, "Daddy never keeps in touch;
That's why she shies away from human affection"
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot to come
And she'll say to him
She's sayin'

I would fly up to the moon and back
If you'll be,
If you'll be my baby...

4. Jonathan Coulton, The Future Soon
Young Stephen has high hopes for this time travel thing.

Last week I left a note on Laura's Charlene's desk
It said, I love you, signed Anonymous Friend
Turns out she's smarter than I thought she was
She knows I wrote it, now the whole class does...
But I know that I'll forget the look of pity in her face
When I'm living in my solar dome on a platform in space

'Cause it's gonna be the future soon
And I won't always be this way
When the things that make me weak and strange get engineered away

5. France Gall, Papillon de nuit
Stephen ends up saving the race of the papilløn, and their symbiotes, with the power of hot alien mindsex.

Comme une étoile amarante
Comme un papillon de nuit
C'est la lumière qui m'attire
La Flamme qui m'éblouit
Je sens mon corps qui chavire
La chaleur qui m'envahit
Et mon désir qui me brûle
Qui va consumer ma vie

[Like a star of amaranth
Like a butterfly of the night
It's the light that attracts me
The Flame that has me dazzled
I feel my body capsizing
The heat overrunning me
And the desire burning me
That will consume my life]

6. John Barrowman, Proud Of Your Boy
Young Stephen, desperate for approval from the amazing but aloof Ten. [I had to resist the temptation to put a lot more John Barrowman in this mix.]

Though I can't make myself taller
Or smarter or handsome or wise

I'll do my best, what else can I do?
Since I wasn't born perfect like Dad or you
Mom, I will try to
Try hard to make you
Proud of your boy

7. Lifehouse, Fairy Tales and Castles
A psi-moon shapes itself around adult Stephen's psyche, sticking Four and Sarah Jane in the gorgeous but false Castle Truthiness.

He says his head is filled with
Cartoons and fairy tales
And he's trapped inside a dungeon of dolls
With smiles on their faces

He's built a pretty cage
Hit show's on a beautiful stage
With candy coated prison bars
And chains that look like jewellery...

On and on and on he goes
Dancing in mansions made of twigs
And castles made of sand

8. Jonathan Coulton, I'm Your Moon (h/t [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust)
Jon knows the real Stephen, and takes care of him - even when they're separated by millions of years and billions of miles.

We can only be who we are
It doesn't matter if they don't understand

I'm your moon
You're my moon
We go round and round

From out here
It's the rest of the world that looks so small

Promise me
You will always remember who you are

9. Dire Straits, Money For Nothing
Following a distress call, Four, Sarah Jane, and Stephen stumble onto the MTV show hosted by an obnoxious younger version of Jon.

Now look at them yo-yo's, that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin', that's the way you do it
Money for nothin', and chicks for free

10. The Birthday Massacre, To Die For
Young Jon discovers that some things are worth fighting for, and Stephen has to run before his personal timeline goes foom.

Tighten your tie, boy
You’re something to die for...

Your memory’s fading
I’ll love you forever
I’ll try to remember
I’ll try to hold on

11. Joseph Arthur, Honey And The Moon
Stephen, torn over his attraction to the available-and-offering young Jon.

I think that you came too soon
You're the honey and the moon
That lights up my night

But right now
Everything you want is wrong
And right now
All your dreams are waking up
And right now
I wish that I could follow you

12. John Barrowman, Weekend In New England (MANILOW!!! cover)
Back in New York, Stephen meets Jon ... and has to leave him again. Timey-wimey wrenching on both sides.

Last night, I said goodbye
Now--it seems years
I’m back in the city
Where nothing is clear
But thoughts of me holding you
Bringing us near...

With you there’s a heaven
So Earth ain’t so bad

And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?

13. Pink, Conversations With My 13-Year-Old Self
Young Stephen has one last crisis of confidence. Someone named Mr. Stewart cheers him up.

You're laughing
But you're hiding
God, I know that trick too well...
I promise
I love you and
Everything will work out fine
Don't try to
Grow up yet
Oh, just give it some time...

Don't lose your passion or the fighter that's inside of you
You're the girl I used to be
The pissed off complicated thirteen year old me

14. Superchick, Suddenly
After all the temporal shuffling and near-miss paradoxes, the Doctor puts Stephen back when and where he belongs ... and somehow, eventually, it all comes together.

And suddenly
It isn't what it used to be
And after all this time
It worked out just fine
And suddenly
I am where I'm supposed to be
And after all the tears
I was supposed to be here

15. Julia Ecklar, Hope Eyrie
Traveling with the Doctor can't last forever. But when you do come home, you'll be better for it.

Worlds grow old and suns grow cold
And death we never can doubt
Time's cold wind, wailing down the past
Reminds us that all flesh is grass
And history's lamps blow out

But the Eagle has landed; tell your children when
Time won't drive us down to dust again

Bonus: Relient K, Merry Christmas, Here's To Many More
Now that Jon, Jack, and Sarah Jane are all with him, Stephen finally gets to spend a Christmas with people he loves, and who love him in return.

It always hurt to be all by myself this time of year
A cold and lonely Christmas eve
And living out my days alone
Well that had been my deepest fear
But you promised you won't leave...

So look at me now
Its finally Christmas and I'm home
Head indoors, to get out of this weather
And I don't know how
But the closest friends I've ever known are all inside
Singing together
Singing merry Christmas, here's to many more
