The terrible light never retreated from the otherworld desert. The masked army moved on or were dissolved long ago. With Carlos stranded here, the only thing to keep him alive is his extremely scientific light-blocking invention.
And the only thing to keep Kevin alive is Carlos.
( For himself: strength, stamina, the ability not to lose all hope, and the ability to finally beat this one damn level of Angry Birds he's been stuck on for a solid month now. )
