His Dark Materials AU. Nobody on Carlos' team is ready to believe that Cecil has a genuine alethiometer...at least, not until they have a chance to do a whole lot of tests. In the meantime, Carlos draws inspiration from one of his lifelong heroes when he becomes the one taken in for re-education.
