It isn't plot-important, but it does get mentioned briefly -- Night Vale was founded by English-speaking colonists, and never got renamed even after the continent's modern national/linguistic boundaries settled. It's similar to the way our world still has city names like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette in the English-speaking US.
