Reveals by Knight plans

Spiritual follow-up to the "Organizing the fic endgame for Cover of Knight" post.

I'm still writing chunks of this universe out-of-order. Eventually put a color-coded chapter list at the end of the WIP file for Reveals by Knight, to help me track questions like "how do I arrange the Reveals chapters so we break for the Thanksgiving special around IRL Thanksgiving?" and "am I leaving room after the Echo release to squeeze in a new chapter idea inspired by Echo?"

Every couple months since October, I've been posting spoiler-censored screencaps of The Plan in the Ptah's fic tag on erinptah. Here's a compilation of all four posts!


October 2023

Quick notes:

• Blackouts hide the notes about who Team MK meets in each chapter
• Although, lbr, some of the locations basically give it away
• I’ve googled the Phase 5 release schedule enough times that I finally just copied it into here
• Color-coding is by month, assuming I can keep up the 1-update-per-week schedule
• Chapter numbers and colors subject to change! This is just to have an overall visual of where I’m at now
• “Draft exists” does not always mean “finished and postable draft exists”…but it means I have enough to feel good about

December 2023

Misc notes:

• New drafts since last time: Cambridge, Hudson River Park, Bucharest (plus The LES, already posted)
• Waverly is a Team Beaubier installment, and I wrote a shorter Team Beaubier update to happen first. Trying not to have the same characters reappear too close together, so Waverly got pushed down a ways
• It’s up to 6K words, unavoidably a separate fic by now
• “Back in London” was the location for chapter 12, so I always wanted the reprise to be chapter 24. The goal is within reach!
• Follow-up goal: a final Back in London for chapter 36
• (where would thay be coming back from? No idea. TBD)

February 2023

 

• New drafts added in the middle: Quebec City, Harlem, Tamaha, The Internet?, Hell’s Kitchen, London
• New endgame (incorporating some stuff I already had planned, but thought I might post later/separately): Hyde Park, location TBD with Sam + Bucky, Back in London 3
• I figured out where they’re coming back from!
• Important plot points to hit before the end: Steven gets to be honest with Thor; Jake gets the hot lawyer threesome of his dreams; Hollow Moon Knight gets a playdate with its BFF (Best Fabric Friend)

April 2023

• “Discourse Hell” was in the drafts as “The Internet?”, and “Puente Antiguo” was previously “Amesbury”
• All the “important plot points to hit” from last time are now live!
• Split “Hell’s Kitchen” into 2 parts, leaving just 1 chapter for post-HWYM endgame
• See, I started actually drafting out the planned “2 chapters of post-HWYM endgame”…and they immediately ballooned in length. Hands up if you’re surprised
• So yeah, gonna work out a relatively-short follow-up to be Chapter 36 instead, and the more-involved multichapter event is spinning off into its own later/separate fic after all

And now...


Here's What You Missed is finally next in the posting schedule! Some key details about the actions of certain characters fell into place after seeing The Marvels, so I had a massive writing spree in late November 2023, and finally ended up with a finished draft.

A Discord comment of mine from December 2: "Juuuuuuuust wrote what might be the last line of what has turned out to be a 15-chapter monstrosity." (Followed by an optimistic "Coming in Probably This February to an AO3 near you!")

...there has been more writing and expanding in the months since then, it'll be at least 18 chapters, and I fully expect to tinker with the last few parts to make sure everything lands right. But it's ready to start.

After finishing both HWYM and Reveals, there's a few standalone follow-up fics in the queue:

Meeting the Team: Red Lights: Therapy fic in which Dr. Sterman helps Team MK process the longfic they've just been through. One-shot, managed not to start working on it until HWYM was finished, it has a complete draft now.

"Separate fic after all": An outing with Sam+Bucky, leading to a different kind of reveal. Multichapter. Thought it would be 2 chapters, now I have 3-and-a-half drafted, I'm guessing it'll clock in a nice smooth 5.

Working title "This is my emotional support witch": Team MK gets help from a friend during an emotionally-fraught conversation. Had a hefty partial draft of this in April 2023, put it away until HWYM was finished, working on it again now. Multichapter, might also end up as 5.
