Oh, this was so so adorable. Some of the things that really made me smile were

"...and a portrait of Jon standing in front of a portrait of himself, in which each version of him was giving the other a dubious look"

"...and all the extra gifts that Stephen had pressed upon Jon in his self-appointed quest to make up for every Christmas that Jon, as a Jew, had 'skipped'."

"...which was one of those presents from Stephen, 'because you can't wear solid grey all the time, you need to branch out a little.'"

"And if that cake should be too dry/Papa and some feminists will bake a pie"
