[Mix] Moon Knight, WandaVision - Here's What You Missed Soundtrack

It's been so long since I've done a mix for one of my fics! (The implosion of 8tracks killed my mojo, it never quite came back.)

Well, Here's What You Missed is about the broadcast of a second season of WandaVision, complete with fake end-credits screencaps. It deserves a fake OST.

(Spoilers for everything.)

Episode 1 credits

s02e01 Season Two Premiere

Every sitcom needs an opening theme, so let's borrow the version from episode 5 of WandaVision season 1: the first episode featuring the Minimoffs as main cast members, where the plot is focused on the shenanigans of raising the boys. (The first-person-plural POV of the lyrics is a nice bonus.)

WandaVision - Making It Up As We Go Along

Crossing our fingers, singing a song
We're making it up as we go along
Through the highs and the lows
We'll be right, we'll be wrong
We're making it up as we go along...

When the going gets tough
When push comes to shove
We're making it up
'Cause we got love

Episode 2 credits

s02e02 Exposition Montage / s02e03 Holiday Special

While the crew outside the Hex tries to piece together what's going on, Wanda and the boys are just making memories. Loving, idyllic, heartbreakingly-perfect memories.

10,000 Maniacs - These Are Days

These are days you'll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this...

You'll know it's true, that you are blessed and lucky
It's true that you are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are the days
You might fill with laughter, oh, until you break
These days you might feel a shaft of light
Make its way across your face...

Episode 3 credits

⬡⬣⬡

Episode 4 credits

s02e04 Sliding Scale of Fourth Wall Hardness / s02e05 Wrong Genre Savvy

Our heroes start to bump on the plot holes and push through the cracks -- Wanda even steps fully off-set for a moment -- only to get gently pushed back into the show.

Neoni - Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas cover)

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high...

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season...
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say

"Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more"

Episode 5 credits

⬡⬣⬡

s02e06 Adaptation Induced Plot Holes

Import Wanda has to get more and more forceful about shoving Local Wanda and the guys back into place. Caught out for the first time by Strange, Layla, and Darcy, she insists everything in the Hex is going great.

Amaranthe - Digital World

You will never have to cry, 'cause the future is sold
You can never die, and you'll never grow old
When everything surrounding you is digital

Never break the mold, you do as you're told
Freedom is for sale if you give them control
Erase, return, in the digital world

s02e07 Clip Show

First chapter with no Hex scenes, so let's get a song for "our scrappy team of powered people and their friends/allies putting their heads together, talking through a supernatural situation and trying to figure out what caused it." The Buffy musical episode provides. (I don't have specific Avengers mapped to specific verses, but please imagine the whole "Bunnies" interlude plays over a Señor Scratchy montage.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I've Got A Theory / Bunnies / If We're Together

WILLOW
I've got a theory
Some kid is dreamin'
And we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare...

XANDER
It could be witches
Some evil witches
...which is ridiculous, 'cause witches, they were persecuted, Wicca good and love the earth and women power and I'll be over here

ANYA
I've got a theory
It could be bunnies!...

BUFFY
What can't we face if we're together?
What's in this place that we can't weather?
Apocalypse? We've all been there

Darcy talking to Wade about a MoM screencap

s02e08 Second Act Complication

The sitcom world gets a little sadder, as Wanda has issues with PTSD and dissociation that can't be retconned out, and has to give the boys an in-universe explanation. They all reaffirm that even when things get bad, they're going to help each other through it. (Minor-key cover of the Friends theme.)

Brent Morgan - I'll Be There For You (The Rembrandts cover)

It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year...

Your mother warned you there'd be days like these
But she didn't tell you when the world has brought you down to your knees
That--

I'll be there for you (when the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you (like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
'Cause you're there for me too

Episode 8 credits

⬡⬣⬡

s02e09 Very Special Guest Star

Revisiting the title song from the last fic where Elias Spector talked with Bucky. He's still trying to catch up on figuring out what happened in that one.

Chicago - Come In From The Night

How many times have I seen you running
Just one step ahead of the past?
So many nights have I seen it coming
I try to talk to you when you pass

I don't know who you were before I met you
You keep your secret safe with a mask
It's almost as though the truth is out to get you
You're just a runaway from the past...

Come out of the darkness, baby
Come in from the night

Episode 10 credits

s02e10 Lost and Found Family / s02e11 What Is This, A Crossover Event?

Wanda and the boys struggle with the sense that there are people they're supposed to love and miss...people they can't quite remember. Tied up with that, the guys start to remember their real, non-brotherly feelings for each other.

Melissa Etheridge - Loved You Before

When I think of how you know me - no doubts, no thinking twice
When your smile can be so soothing, a familiar paradise
When there's no one else that makes me whole, I am never needing more
I get this feeling that I have loved you before...

Have I wandered through the desert? Have I looked to the north star?
Have I rode the days and nights on rails, to get back where you are?

⬡⬣⬡

Episode 12 credits

s02e12 Many Will Enter, Few Will Win

Strange finally manages to make contact. Wanda and the guys keep the signal going as much as they can, and resolve to get out of here.

Something Corporate - Watch The Sky

I'm lost at sea
The radio is jammed, but they won't find me
I swear it's for the best, and then your frequency
Is pulling me in closer 'til I'm home

And I've been up for days
I finally lost my mind and then I lost my way...
But I won't let this get me, I will fight
You live the life you're given with the storms outside
Some days all I do is watch the sky

s02e13 Back Door Pilots

One song for each reboot! The Glee cover of Team Moon Knight's go-to karaoke pick. A song from the Grey's Anatomy musical episode. A dark and haunting cover of the Gilligan's Island theme. The deliberately-retro Red Dwarf end credits. And the landmark "healthy body-sharing relationships" anthem from Steven Universe.

Glee Cast - My Life Would Suck Without You (Kelly Clarkson cover)

I know that I've got issues, but you're pretty messed up too
Either way, I found out I'm nothing without you

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me, and honestly?
My life (my life!) would suck (would suck!) without you

Glee parody promo

Grey's Anatomy Cast - Universe & U (KT Tunstall cover)

You know there's no need to hide away
You know I tell the truth
We are just the same

And I can feel everything you do
Hear everything you say
Even when you're miles away
'Cause I am me, the universe and you

Grey's Anatomy parody promo

Wasteland 3 Soundtrack - Sea Shanty (Gilligan's Island cover)

So this is the tale of our castaways
They're here for a long, long time
They'll have to make the best of things
It's an uphill climb

Gilligan's Island parody promo

Red Dwarf - End Theme

It's cold outside, there's no kind of atmosphere
I'm all alone (more or less)
Let me fly, far away from here...

Red Dwarf promo parody

Estelle - Stronger Than You

Go ahead and try to hit me if you're able
Can't you see that my relationship is stable?...

And you're never gonna stop what we made together
We are gonna stay like this forever
If you break us apart, we'll just come back newer

s02e14 This Is Your Life

Back on the reality-based level of headspace, our heroes get slammed by memories of the traumas that made them retreat into fiction the first time around. (This song is specifically from the POV of a woman who just saw her twin sons die.)

Blood Brothers - Tell Me It's Not True

Tell me it's not true
Though it's here before me
Say it's just a dream
Say it's just a scene
From an old movie of years ago
From an old movie with Marilyn Monroe...

Say it's just two clowns
Who couldn't get their lines right
Say it's just a show
On the radio
That we can turn over and start again

⬡⬣⬡

s02e15 Steven's Favorite Part

The guys talk Wanda into trying something new.

Vienna Teng - Level Up

If you are afraid, come forth
If you are alone, come forth now
Everybody here has loved and lost...

Call it your 2.0, your rebirth, whatever –
So long as you can feel it all
So long as all your doors are flung wide
Call it your day #1 in the rest of forever

If you are afraid, give more
If you are alive, give more now
Everybody here has seams and scars
So come out and level up

⬡⬣⬡

s02e16 Outsider POV

With the support of her family, Wanda tries something new.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Comeback (feat. Bleachers)

I'm at a war with myself
We go back to my place
Take my makeup off
Show you my best disguise

You believe in my heart
You believe in my kind
It's a tragedy, boy
Every time you ask me--

I don't know what I'm feeling, but I believe
I was thinking 'bout making a comeback
Back to me

⬡⬣⬡

s02e17 Not That Kind Of Show

Wanda, then the Moon Knights, and at long last the Minimoffs wake up: out of the Hex, back to present-day reality, and surrounded by friends.

Owl City - This Is The Future

Wake up on your own
And look around you, 'cause you're not alone
Release your high hopes and they'll survive
'Cause this is the future, and you are alive

⬡⬣⬡

Secret bonus track: one more sitcom theme, about being away for a long time and finally coming home, to play us out.

John Sebastian - Welcome Back

Well the names have all changed since you hung around
But those dreams have remained and they've turned around
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya
Back here where we need ya...

Welcome back!
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
