Hmm. Things have certainly escalated, and Madoka appears to be safe, at least for the moment (but her heart has always been both her biggest strength and weakness. If Sayaka gets in trouble either with the state of her soul gem like I'd be willing to bet she will be, we could run into complications with wishing).
Sayaka's falling fast, and while it's not someone who isn't interested like violin-boy, if she screws something up bad with Madoka, her witch most definitely still has a chance to appear. She's fixated on Madoka's attention to Homura, no matter how small it is, and her bluntness is getting her into what could be trouble. Her anime fixation still bothers me, but I think I've come to realize that this happens only because in a work where we as the audience see the deconstruction of the genre and come to understand the nature of the world (as well as gain a greater understanding of Homura), Sayaka's clinging to the standard anime tropes begins to grate. Not her fault, just our much greater breadth of knowledge. Irrational, slightly, but unavoidable at this point.
I do wonder how Mami died (if she did, Kyoko's unreliable at this point to either to be lying, or Homura could have time-stepped in at the last second with her unaware), though I'm sure that will be made clear soon enough. It certainly explains Kyuubei not helping her find Sayaka before now, but something still seems slightly fishy to me. I'll have to go re-read the last section with Kyuubei, I think. Homura's normally careful enough to keep enough support for end-game unless Mami loses it via THE TRUTH(TM) or one of the other girls dying/witching out, so either a random witch got her or she got too nosy around Homura.
Hmm. Theoretically, Sayaka literally can't stop Homura from re-kidnapping Madoka and hiding her elsewhere, unless the wish Sayaka made is pervasive. But with the gambit failing once, will she try again? Either way, with losing Madoka, Homura's destabilization is going to continue to accelerate now that Madoka is gone and has gotten involved with the incubator (even if she has blown him off for now, but as I said earlier, that might not stick), in which case, any chance of ending this as opposed to another rewind goes down the drain at alarming speeds, at least, from her point of view.
While I think Homura's an optimist underneath it all (hence her waiting til the end to reset every time, despite possible inclinations of failure. She'd also have to be to keep going through the timelines after some of the stuff she's seen or had to do), she is not going to be at all pleased.
If Sayaka has Madoka (and for some reason I'm still thinking that's debatable), the shipper in me wonders about Homu and Kyoko, especially since Kyoko might not fixate on helping Sayaka this time around since she's not all super-mopey (yet), though she did burn her wish on finding Madoka, which I'm sure Kyoko won't be fond of.
Also, now that the girls know that Homura isn't totally off her rocker regarding Kyuubei, I do wonder how that'll affect their thoughts, if at all. Isolation of that magnitude leaves horrendous aftereffects, and seeing this side of her is certainly something different from Madoka's normal sidelined or magical girl personalities and Sayaka's successful but unhappy violin wish.
Personally, not seeing much chance for this to be resolved anywhere near what most would consider a "good" ending, but I'm both willing to accept that, yet also open for any potential surprises down the road.
Acktph. So many musings. I hope you don't mind them all ^_^;; Keep up the great work!
Ooooh snap.
