Sailor Moon | The Xyll Saga: Civilians
Type: Character profiles
Spoilers: Moderate
Table of Contents: The Xyll Saga
A roundup of the non-superpowered good guys. They're the ones the Sailor Senshi are sworn to protect, but it goes both ways: our heroines never would have made it without the help.
This covers all the named characters who are neither royalty (i.e., senshi and their relatives) nor evil. Recurring ones have their own descriptions; one-offs are mentioned as part of somebody else's. One profile never got written at the time, so I've added it retroactively, along with some notes on the originals. Anything written in 2012 is in italic text.
Non-italic text and images that follow are taken directly from the profiles written in 2002-2003.

Ryn
She's the most powerful fighter to survive the destruction of Chronos, and, since Sailor Chronos is missing, arguably its best soldier. Although she doesn't have sailor powers, Ryn can hold her own in a fight next to the Sailor Soldiers of Xyll. Here are her stats:
Name: Ryn (no known last name)
Birthday: If she knows, she's not telling
Age: Fifteen (Earth years)
Blood type: A
Fav. foods: Nuts, salty foods
Likes: Flying her plane, riding her bike, kicking serious tail, black leather
Dislikes: Kiraino, what Kiraino does, people Kiraino commands, everything Kiraino stands for . . . are you sensing a pattern here?
Personality: Ryn's your typical cold emotionless deadly fighter. She gets mad fast but she doesn't lose control; she makes decisions quickly and firmly, and years of leading a spacer squad have given her a formidable authority that almost nobody dares challenge. She is never without some kind of weapon, and even in the absence of one she can be deadly in hand-to-hand combat. Unfortunately, she shuns the idolization of young Chronosian Moonie, a little girl who has the best chance of getting Ryn to relax enough to have any fun.
Family: Ryn was orphaned at a young age; she grew up in the Spacers' Academy. Since she doesn't know her family name, she never had much chance of finding them, and I wouldn't bet on their survival of the destruction of Chronos.
History: Orphaned young; grew up in the academy; went on to lead a squad early. Ryn was the best pilot at the academy, but her squad's chances to become one of the Queen's Own were shattered when they were accused of high treason against the planet. In fact, Ryn and her fellow spacers had discovered Kiraino's infiltration of Chronosian military, but this they couldn't prove (Kiraino covered her tracks well) and were exiled from the planet. However, Ryn's loyalty to her home never wavered; she was there almost immediately when the Queen of Hate began her outright invasion of the planet.
Dream: More or less - to kill Kiraino. Cheerful, ne?
[ As is probably already obvious to some of you, Ryn is the character who developed into Reseda, later seen in And Shine Heaven Now and But I'm A Cat Person. ]

Moonie
She's a cute little kid, spunky and sweet, just the kind of daughter everyone wants - nice but not too sugary. She's one of the younger Chronosian survivors, and one of the last that Ryn rescued. For some reason she idolizes Ryn, seeing the spacer as a great heroine. Moonie and her less outgoing cousin Sandy are among the very few Chronosian children saved; her father, also rescued, is protective of Sandy but recognizes Moonie's independence and doesn't even try to challenge it.

Countess Ursula
She's the highest-ranking survivor of the destruction of Chronos, and yet she's only in her early twenties. She's diplomatic and competent in almost any case, and yet it is Ryn who is really responsible for the success of the surviving Chronosians. Ursula still suffers from the loss of her husband, the taciturn Count Triton, but is a strong if quiet woman. She also likes to indulge her artistic talent in her spare time.

Kichou
She's the only other pilot from Ryn's squad other than Ryn herself to have survived the battle with Kiraino's fighters. Kichou was also in the top of her class at Spacers' Academy, and was once Ryn's fiercest competitor. But when she was given the opportunity to be on Ryn's squad with the other pilot as leader, Kichou didn't commplain. Now she's a loyal and true supporter of Ryn, and arguably her only actual friend.

Otohimeno Mamorinuku
He's a cadet in the planetary guard of Rhea, and, although at sixteen he is young for the job, is very astute and qualified. Nevertheless, he's a bit of a romantic, and knows all about the Sailor Soldiers of the Xyll system - which is why he realized that the rumors about Rose were only rumors, and came to the aid of our heroines. He's young enough to see the wrong in Captain Ayabuma's judgement of Rose, and old enough to act on it.

Geode
He's an architect and designer of few-person interplanetary transports, and had the good life on Chronos. That all changed when he became the only member of his family to make it off the planet in one piece. As an intelligent and rational man, Geode copes with his grief surprisingly well; being able to apply his skills to the needs of the senshi and Ryn helps a lot. He accompanies them to act as a technician, since he knows as much about repairing planes as Ryn or Kichou.

Aeneas
[ A member of the Didoan Royal Guard, he was kidnapped by Kiraino in her original "rounding up potential generals" phase, largely because she thought he was hot. When he turned out not to have the potential for evil after all, Kiraino tossed him in suspended animation and left him there, until a shortage of generals forces her to break him out... ]
