I think this version of "Stephen" came out less...empathy-enabled?...than usual. Even after he's started to get a clue about what Jon feels, his main thought is for his own comfort. Normally his whole "lean on Jon, feel ashamed over it, cope by lashing out at Jon" dynamic has to change before they start making out; here, it's stayed in place and only gotten worse (and it's been trashing Jon's self-esteem in the process).
This Jon already has a psychiatrist, never fear! When he reaches out to Stephen, I doubt he has personal support in mind so much as support for their relationship. About time they tried to work their way back from this spiral of dysfunction they've gotten stuck in :)
