It's not a particularly scientific process. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to draw every character at least once, and that at least part of each chapter should be drawn. If there are parts with subtleties that wouldn't come across in a comic, those need to be written out.
Beyond that, it mainly comes down to what I feel like drawing. (If something is annoyingly complex, for example, I'll just write about it. And many scenes with embarrassed!Stephen get drawn.)
