Mix - Fake News: you are Mine

Medium: Television
Fandom: The Daily Show/The Colbert Report/The Bible
Subject: God!Jon/Satan!"Stephen"
Title: you are Mine
Warnings: Blasphemy, D/s, a bit of sex.
Disclaimer: This is a work of parody. Although reference is made to real persons, the dialog, actions, and content are a product of the mixer's imagination only.

Sandbox challenge again: a mix for God!Jon/Satan!"Stephen" (with a few songs for the WØRD-made-flesh) as portrayed in the Deus/satan series by [livejournal.com profile] raaaaain, a 'verse which has been open source since it was created by remixing two other 'verses. (Have I mentioned lately why I love this fandom?)

A lot of these are songs that I planned to put on some other J/"S" mix, until I looked up the lyrics and saw that one line said "Lord", or even just that the word "You" was always capitalized. Because Christian artists have turned out a ton of variations on "I am flawed and lonely and needy, and you are patient and forgiving and loving".

Elton John † It's Tough To Be A God
The eternally self-deprecating Jon. He may be the Maker of Heaven and Earth, but he thinks of himself as just some guy, and isn't really comfortable with abject devotion.

I hardly think I'm qualified
To come across all sanctified
I just don't cut it with the cherubim...

It's a terrifying notion
All those prayers and those salaams
Any normal man would bridle
If he's forced to be an idol
And a normal man's exactly what I am

Crash Test Dummies † God Shuffled His Feet
Jon on the Daily Show, making silly faces and waiting for the laughter. Sometimes people take him a bit too seriously.

God shuffled his feet
And glanced around at them
The people cleared their throats
And stared right back at him...

So someone asked him: "I beg your pardon:
I'm not quite clear about what you just spoke
What that a parable, or a very subtle joke?"

Sara Groves † The Word
The WØRD hangs out at the spinoff, watching and leaving snarky comments. This song includes a lovely lyrical definition of truthiness.

People are getting fit for Truth
Like they're buying a new tailored suit
Does it fit across the shoulders?
Does it fade when it gets older?...

But the Word was
And the Word is
And the Word will be

Pat Green † Wave On Wave
Stephen on the Report, putting up a front of truthiness, acting independent but secretly still craving Jon's approval.

So caught up now in pretending
That what we're seeking is the truth
I'm just looking for a happy ending
All I'm looking for is you

You came upon me, wave on wave
You're the reason I'm still here
Am I the one you were sent to save?

Relient K † Falling Out
The Adversary starts Armageddon, and rages for years...until Jon puts an end to it, with a combination of divine unlimited love and divine laying-the-smackdown.

I'm falling out of style with the current way things are
The things that make conforming hard
I'm falling out of control and you just can't stop me now
I'll fight as long as time allows

Face down
This carpet tastes like coffee grounds
Ground into my face now...

I'm out here, way beyond
A shadow of a doubt
And I know I'm never falling out of favor with you

Fireflight † You Decide
At the end of the world, with all illusions torn away, it's time for a moment of truth.

Fiction and reality collide
Faceless and so busted up inside
You've been searching, you've been crying out
Will you be destroyed by all your doubt?

You decide
(Who will you run to)
Wrong or right
(There is no reason)
For you to hide
Only love can change your life
You decide

Barlow Girl † I Need You To Love Me
Stephen's nervous confession.

I have wasted so much time
Pushing you away from me
I just never saw how you could cherish me
'Cause you're a God who has all things
And still you want me

I need you to love me, and I
I won't keep my heart from you this time

Superchick † I Belong To You
Surrender.

You're the one who will never let me down
Won't let me down
I belong to you
Lord I belong to you

Sometimes life brings more pain than we can bear alone
When hope is gone and I have no strength to stand on my own
When nothing helps there's nothing that I can do
You surround me and show me I belong to you

Matthew West † More
Jon's reassurance.

Just a face in the city
Just a tear on a crowded street
But you are one in a million
And you belong to me

And I want you to know
I'm not letting go
Even when you come undone

I love you more than the sun
And the stars that I taught how to shine
You are mine, and you shine for me too
I love you
Yesterday and today
And tomorrow I'll say it again and again
I love you more

Eleventyseven † Love In Your Arms
The shows are no longer necessary. There's simply nothing bad left to satirize.

I never bother with the politics
In the end they never really matter at all...
Religion can be so overrated
But all I know is now I am free

I was lost in a place no one wants to be
Trying hard to convince my heart to believe
You were there all along, I just couldn't see
That there's a love in your arms that's waiting for me

Matthew West † You Are Everything
Stephen is awed that, even knowing all his flaws, Jon is still willing to take care of him.

I'm the one with big mistakes
Big regrets and bigger breaks
Than I ever care to confess
Oh, but you're the one who looks at me
And sees what I was meant to be
More than just a beautiful mess

Where would I be without someone to save me
Someone who won't let me fall?

Madonna † Like A Prayer
Oh, and the sex is hot too.

I hear your voice
It's like an angel sighing
I have no choice, I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes
Oh God I think I'm falling
Out of the sky, I close my eyes
Heaven help me

When you call my name
It's like a little prayer
I'm down on my knees
I wanna take you there
In the midnight hour
I can feel your power
Just like a prayer
You know I'll take you there

Lifehouse † Everything
No, scratch that: the sex is heavenly.

You calm the storms
And you give me rest
You hold me in your hands
You won't let me fall
You still my heart
And you take my breath away
Would you take me in
Take me deeper now

And how can I stand here with you
And not be moved by you?
Would you tell me
How could it be
Any better than this?...

'Cause you're all I want
You're all I need
You're everything
Everything

Point of Grace † Blue Skies
This song is either about Paradise, or Jon's eyes. Assuming there's a difference.

The sky's still blue
For my hope is in you
You're my joy
You're the dream that's still alive
Like the wind at my back
And the sun on my face
You are life
You're grace
You are blue skies
You're my blue skies

Relient K † Pressing On
It's going to be all right.

You look down on me, but you don't look down on me at all
You smile and laugh, and I feel the love you have for me
I think we're going somewhere
We're on to something good here
And we're gonna make it after all

Bonus: David Sasscer † Jon Stewart Is God
Karaoke version sung by Stephen Colbert, from this video.

Jon Stewart is God
He made the earth and sky
Jon Stewart is God
Über-Rabbi
From Genesis through Psalms
If you read between the lines
It’s Jon you’ll find

You managed to give Christian music implications of gay D/s God/Satan.

That is awesome.

;alskdjf The cover picture is so deliciously blasphemous! =D

I definitely have to second the "giving Christian music implications of gay D/s God/Satan is blasphemously amazing" sentiment.

I really like the lyrics of that "God Shuffled His Feet" song. Very Jon-like.

*thieves like the mad thieving thief that she is*

SEE I LOVE THE NEWSBOYS MORE THAN MOST THINGS, BUT IN CHURCH I WANT SOMETHING WITH THAT HISTORY, SOMETHING THAT CONNECTS ME NOT JUST WITH MY FELLOW WORSHIPERS AT THAT TIME, AT THAT PLACE, BUT WITH MY VARIOUS SIBLINGS IN FAITH THROUGHOUT HISTORY, IDK, WHICH IS WHY NO MATTER HOW GOOD, THE MODERN PIECES NEVER REALLY DO IT FOR ME

ALTHOUGH A MODERN RENDITION IS FINE TOO. MY CHURCH DOES DO A KICKASS RENDITION OF "JESUS PAID IT ALL" PLUS ALSO "O COME O COME EAMMNUEL" AND "COME LET US ADORE HIM" LIKE TWICE A YEAR AT CHRISTMAS TIME THAT MAKE ME SHIVERY AND WEEPY EVERY TIME LIKE SOME KIND OF NERVOUS WRECK LOL IS DRAKE EASILY AFFECTED BY RELIGIOUS MUSIC NOT AT ALL, NOT AT ALL

SEE I CAN'T EVEN DOWNLOAD IT THOUGH I AM JUST LIKE DDDDDDD: ALTHOUGH I READ THE EVERLIVING FUCK OUT OF THAT WORK OF FANFICTION SO REALLY WHAT IS SO UNNERVING TO ME I DO NOT KNOW AND YET

JOIN US IN THE SPECIAL HELL

I've always thought God/Satan was a great slash pairing. Then again, maybe I've just read Good Omens too many times.

(...would it be slash since angels don't have genders? do gods have genders? The books do say 'He' - oh god now I'm going to be thinking about this all day...)

I third this.
Also, given that I've recently been watching Doctor Who, that reminded me of the Master and his 'funny'... ;)

Well, I was watching the three-part finale in Season 3 - the one with the Doctor/Master story arc - and in the Sound of Drums, I think, the Master [as Prime Minister Saxon] is getting down to the business of "government" and he throws all the folders up in the air - well, the Master is psychotic - so they fall down everywhere and the others all stare at him and he says, "Well, go on, crack a smile," and "It was funny, wasn't it?" and then he illustrates the point with his 'funny' vs. 'not funny' faces... the "sometimes people take him a bit too seriously" part just reminded me of that.

Indeed. At least he's not intending to destroy the world [just to get Stephen's attention]...no, that would be the other way around. ;)
