Mix: Big Love - Easy To Love
Medium: Television
Fandom: Big Love
Subject: Bill/Barb-Nicki-Margene
Title: Easy To Love
Life is never easy for anyone in this series, least of all the main characters. But loving each other? That comes naturally.
I ship this whole unit: the romances of Bill/Barb, Bill/Nicki, and Bill/Margene, with nonsexual but intense and devoted sister-wife relationships between the three women. This mix covers the whole arc of their marriage, with a brief appearance by Ana towards the end. Mostly Bill's POV, but it's about all of them.
Sarah Em + Include Me
(Mainstream Mormonism has rejected polyamory, but that never quite sat right with Bill.)
They spoke of angels with white wings above
And then they told me only the good ones learn to fly
And I wondered, wondered why
They forgot to tell me why...
Hallelujah they were singing joyous
I could hear them but their love did not include me
Hallelujah this can't be right I tell you
I tell you, I tell you
Include me, include me
I heard the angels sing
Stars + Look Up
(While Barb fights cancer, Nicki arrives to help take care of her.)
Your boy is like a memory
Some sense of touch and a melody
Your girl, she's a renegade
A hurricane that keeps you there, safe
Hurricane that keeps you there, safe
You're cold, maybe you just missed the sun
You fall, feeling like it's just begun
So far, keeping it together's been enough
Look up, rain is falling, looks like love
Ben Folds + In Between Days
(Barb beats the cancer, and Bill formally invites Nicki to join the family.)
Yesterday I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday, away from you
It froze me deep inside
Well come back, come back
No other way...
Come back, come back
Come back to me
And I know I was wrong when I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her in between
Without you
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young + Triad
(The young Margene comes in knowing next to nothing about plural marriage, but is willing to learn.)
You want to know how it will be
Me and her or you and me
You both sit there with your long hair flowing
Your eyes alive, your minds are still growing
Saying to me what can we do now that we
Both love you -- I love you too
But I don't really see, why can't we go on as three
You are afraid, embarrased too
No one has ever, in your sweet short life, child
Said such a thing to you
Your mother's ghost stands at you shoulder
Got a face like ice -- just a little colder
Saying you can not do that it breaks all the rules
You learned in school
But I don't really see, why can't we go on as mmm three
Carly Simon + Let The River Run
(Growing a family, and building their own supportive community of faith.)
It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge, running on the water
Coming through the fog, your sons and daughters
Let the river run
Let all the dreamers wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem
John Barrowman + Easy To Love
(Ana gets invited into the family, but eventually decides it's too much.)
You'd be so easy to love
So easy to idolize all others above
So worth the yearning for
So swell to keep every home fire burning for
And we would be so grand at the game
Carefree together that it does seem a shame
That you can't see your future with me
'Cause you'd be, oh, so easy to love
Charlotte Martin + Limits Of Our Love
(The rest of them remain devoted to each other, through all doubts and against all odds.)
You're the light on the darkest me
Don't back out 'cause you cannot see
And though our instincts say that we should turn and run
And I will never quit the fight
I'll push the limits of our love
And every passing day and night
I'll push the limits of our love
And everything will be all right
I'll push the limits of our love
To see how far it goes, goes where nobody knows
Bon Jovi + Born To Be My Baby
(Bill's business always seems to be on the verge of collapse, but he has his faith and his family.)
Rainy night and they worked all day
We both got jobs cause there's bills to pay
We got something they can't take away
Our love, our lives...
We got something to believe in
Even if we don't know where we stand
Only God would know the reasons
But I bet he must have had a plan
Cause you were born to be my baby
And baby, I was made to be your man
Roxette + The Big L.
(With a heart this full, what more can you ask for?)
She's the top, she's got the world on a string
She makes me boogie, makes me do anything yeah yeah
Hey now, touch the sky
You've got a certain kind of look in your eyes
Well, she's a miracle, she's all that I need
Like the water and the air that I breathe...
The big love is taking the wheel
The big love goes head over heels
The big lust, bring it into the small world, the bigger the better
