I keep trying to make a fluffy mix about these two, but it always gets tragic by the end. Sigh.

Mostly Carmen's POV. More of the pairing here and at [livejournal.com profile] where_inthewrld.

Title: You Have Restored Mine

This was going to be a Jon-and-Stephen-at-the-Rally mix, and it ended up turning into a Jon's-speech-at-the-end mix. Which, since I mostly do Stephen mixes the rest of the time, seemed fair. Title and all quotations are from said speech, with help from this transcription.

(And yes, it does open with a Spice Girls song. Don't judge me.)

Dr. Parr used to say of such men, that they were certainly cracked; but that the crack let in light.
John Connolly, An Inquiry Concerning the Indications of Insanity (1830)

A character soundtrack for the revised State of Grace. (Cover is spoilery; click through to see. There's also a large clean version here.) Stephen has multiple personalities, and spends years thinking of himself as broken because of it. Then they start getting to know each other, and learn to see things differently.

Title: Petit Fourth

A character soundtrack for the revised State of Grace. Charlene was Stephen's childhood best friend; took off for Paris when he started getting creepy; spent a couple of years wandering the world and leveling up her cooking skills; then returned to find out if she could make a home for herself as the fourth corner of his queer polyamorous love quadrangle.

A character/pairing soundtrack for the revised State of Grace. When Jon fell in love, neither of them could have predicted the storm it would set off. He's determined to see Stephen through it, but Jon's going to have to learn to take care of himself along the way if he plans to make it out the other side.

In which Alucard and Integra spend large portions of their relationship denying the searing sexual tension between them, and most of the rest of it being alone while the other one is dearly departed. This is the tale of their struggle to squeeze in some passionate romance during those brief periods when they're both around.

Title: Easy To Love

Life is never easy for anyone in this series, least of all the main characters. But loving each other? That comes naturally.

I ship this whole unit: the romances of Bill/Barb, Bill/Nicki, and Bill/Margene, with nonsexual but intense and devoted sister-wife relationships between the three women. This mix covers the whole arc of their marriage, with a brief appearance by Ana towards the end. Mostly Bill's POV, but it's about all of them.

Title: P. K. Winsome's Finding My Niche: The P. K. Winsome Story

P. K. Winsome is a mystery wrapped in an enigma covered by a broad smile and topped with a 20% Off For Today Only sticker. He brands himself as The Black Republican, but most of his association with other right-wingers involves charging a fee to make them look more diverse. Oh, and he's possibly the only person with his name and face slapped on more cheap trinkets than Stephen's.

Honest conservative, or merely apathetic enough to stand next to them at rallies? Carrying out a deeply subversive Take That to the institutionalized racism in the establishment, or just out to make a quick buck? There are lots of ways to interpret this guy. Here's one.

Title: All Systems Are Go

In the actual series, Tara and her personalities have troubled relationships. Most of them can't communicate directly with each other, and they spend more time being frustrated with each other than figuring out ways to cooperate and compromise.

This mix is a kind of AU Season 2, in which the alters start really getting to know each other and working together. Still includes some spoilers for canon, though. High-res version of the cover art.

Title: Baby, It's Fact

A liberal AU version of how this pairing could develop.

Instead of being a repressed conservative with trust issues and hidden submissive tendencies, Stephen is a TMI-prone liberal with boundary issues and a secret longing to Dom the hell out of someone. All of which means that, instead of coaxing him to open up so they can get together, Jon's first step is pushing him to back off a little.

Title The Thing With Feathers - Soundtrack
Series: TDS/TCR
Rating: PG? Some swearing in the lyrics.
Disclaimer: Same as on the chapters of the story. In short, not mine.

The compilation, a .zip file, contains the cover art, the entire lyrics booklet (sixteen pages; you could literally print yourself a copy), full text lyrics with annotations, and of course the music itself. There are as many songs as there are chapters (although they don't exactly correspond to each other), plus a bonus track for the epilogue.

The bonus track is one of those songs that was written to be religious, but never actually mentions a deity. As for the rest of them -- I was pleasantly surprised to find just how many songs refer to "this world", "our world", or even "two worlds". (Not to mention "hope".)

Some of these are general enough that I may end up vidding them anyway. Others are delightfully specific to the events of the story. But I love 'em all.

Clean versions of the background illustrations are over here.

Warnings: Violence; mental illness; sexual abuse; (canonical) character death.

They're a nun with multiple personalities who switches between a timid innocent and a katana-swinging berserker. S/he's a gun-wielding intersex soldier who poses as a priest. They fight crime!

...and they only appear in a handful of chapters (plus a couple of non-canon side stories), none of which are particularly character-development-filled. So most of this mix is personal fanon.
