A very special holiday-themed Liberalverse ficlet, referencing the passing of the Zadroga bill. (This was more poignant before the bill's failings began to surface, but oh well.) Based on a prompt from [personal profile] queenfanfiction: 034. Not Enough

Stephen is resolutely observing Soltice, Festivus, HumanLight, Christmahanukwanzakah, Kwanzaa, and Slovenien Independence Day all in a row. )

Title: Seven
Rating: G
Characters/pairings: "Stephen", liberal!"Stephen", happy!"Stephen", Steve ColberT, Jermaine Maine, Sweetness, Esteban, Jon, Allison
Disclaimer: Work of parody; work of fiction; the characters aren't mine.

Based on the virtues given in Dante's Purgatorio, where each corresponds to one of the Deadly Sins. Seven sentences, seven virtues, seven "Stephens" (and associated doppelgangers, alter egos, and hallucinatory voices):

...it's just the guy in the shocking pink, smiling like a sunbeam and holding out an envelope. )

Title: Fit For Office
Rating: G
Characters/pairings: Jon, l!"Stephen"
Two disclaimers, with love )

Summary: For a prompt from [personal profile] sirdrakesheir, who requested, and I quote, "OMG L!STEPHEN'S PRESIDENTIAL RUN."

The quotation at the beginning is from The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe.

'Higher taxes, free health care for animals, and forcing everyone to buy environmentally friendly washing machines.' )

Summary: I asked the Internet for ficlet prompts; [personal profile] aybara_max responded with "Liberal!Stephen takes Jon on a camping trip."

ETA: Speak of the devil: Stuff White People Like ([syndicated profile] stuffwhitepeoplelike_feed) just did an entry on camping!

'We're really in the wild now! Nature at its finest!' )

Summary: More from the liberal!"Stephen" AU. In which Stephen is inquisitive, Jon runs low on forks, and Larry is not as scary as he thinks he is, but every bit as devious.

(Precedes A Modest Proposition, which is why Stephen by that point has a bit more of a clue.)

'I'm a Zen Taoist Wiccan Discordian, but it's not quite the same, you know?' )

Summary: I know, I know, I planned this to be a happy month. But sometimes you can't help being upset.

Trouble is, the alternate-universe liberal version of "Stephen" doesn't think he's allowed to be. No matter what happens with Proposition 8.

(Please be warned that this is all kinds of angry.)

'Sure, America came pretty close to turning into a fascist dictatorship under the Bush regime, but at least being gay has stayed legal!' )

Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Language, violence, injury, allusions to past skeeviness, Stephen being Stephen (yes, still).
Characters/pairings: Jon, liberal!"Stephen" (one-sided shippiness)

Summary: Missed the sign-up window for [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, but this prompt was left an orphan, so I decided to take a crack at it: 1081. Per 10-02-07, we have a canon AU in which "Stephen" is ~fabulously~ liberal. What does his sexuality mean in that universe?

Since conservative "Stephen" is repressed, authoritarian, and narrowminded, liberal "Stephen" is overexpressive, permissive, and, as Robert Frost put it, too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel. This was supposed to be amusing, but got kind of depressing at the end. Whoops.

More stories from the Liberalverse can be found here.

(Can I say how much it amuses me that one of the edits to Wikipedia's "International Friendship Day" page was made by a user named Bramlet Abercrombie? Random crossovers FTW.)

'I was only helping them break out of society's limiting notions of sexuality! Specifically, the limit that says you're not allowed to explore it with your handsome and dashing boss.' )
