Christmas ornament surrounded by lights.
First lines of fic posted each month. Nine are fake news, two Madoka Magica, one Sailor Moon. Favorite bit: the year starts and ends with the Castleverse :D

January: Her Majesty's Great Hall had never looked more splendid.

February: The figure on Goldman's arm was unmistakably not his wife, a fact which Stewart knew better than to mention.

March: "Double whipped grande black mocha venti latte with cream and sprinkles, on the rocks. And make it snappy."

April: When Olivia appeared at the door, stashed her backpack under the counter, grabbed a lollipop from the dish next to the register, and came straight back to say hello, Jonathan didn't think anything of it.

May: The first time Stephen shows up for lunch after summer vacation, there's a hideous knitted thing slung over his shoulder.

June: Someone opens the door to the coatroom, and Jon and Stephen spring guiltily apart.

July: The ensign operating the transporter was about to tie hir tentacle in a knot in agitation.

August: The cat gyrated her hind paw in the direction of her chin, and only barely managed to bump her knee into the side of her head.

September: She should have waited for Homura.

October: The game was in full swing, and there was one girl kicking circles around the rest of the third-grade class.

November: On the first day at the Foreign Planets Academy, the members of the youngest class milled around in tiny, species-segregated clusters.

December: Belowdecks was a hive of anxiety.

Post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

This is everything that's reached the stage of "more than a few sentences long" and that hasn't been posted before (e.g. commentfics that are being saved for possible expansion). Mostly fake news, with an appearance by Read or Die at the end.

The desk was, according to Stephen, a top-secret outpost using the most advanced technology in all the United Planets for clandestine observation of the human species. None of this had been enough to stop Starbucks from installing two stores. )

Over at [personal profile] eisen:

Plenty of writers talk about "showing their id", but our id is a vital and unavoidable part of the fic-writing experience - it shows itself in everything we write, whether we know it or not! The id is an awesome thing. Plenty of our favorite fics would never have existed without it. But there's always that pesky question a writer gets to asking (or is that just me?): am I getting my ideas across clearly? How much of my id is showing up when I mean it to, and am I showing off parts of my id I didn't realize I had? It's important to know these things! Conscious id-identification can only improve one's ability to evoke what makes that particular idea so enjoyable for us!

So, we come before you, oh sages of the internet, with a question: what parts of our id do you see? We really want to know! (Don't be scared. We'll only bite you if you want it!)

My thread is here. And y'all should know where to find my fic =P

I have been promising way too many things to people lately, so I probably should not be doing this...but [personal profile] eisen posted the meme, and I had to hear her meta about Witch Hunter Robin, so now I'm locked in. Whoops.

The first ten people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. Some other equivalent gift, like icons or mini-fanmixes or quickie meta, would make sense for people who don't write fic themselves. (Or if the writing doesn't come...)

You may get drabbles, or you may get chibis/sketches, depending on What I Feel Like. Or I can do meta-on-demand, if there's a question you're dying to hear me pontificate on.

Just to mix things up, I'll throw in one limit: you can ask for any fandom except fake news. (Some suggestions: Hellsing; Doctor Who; Sailor Moon; Good Omens; Jeeves & Wooster; Red Dwarf; Madeline; Read Or Die; Waldo/Carmen Sandiego; anything Dr. Seuss. But anything I've written/drawn/fangirled is fair game.)

Jon and Stephen, "Believe in the me who believes in you"
Title: The Heart Of Rock And Roll (Is The Slashfic)
Series: TDS/TCR
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: Jon/"Stephen"
Two disclaimers, with love )

Summary: I tried to do the music meme ("put your playlist on shuffle, start writing when the song begins, stop when it ends"), but quickly found that I couldn't resist revising. So I made the results drabbles (i.e., 100 words each) instead, just so they would have some kind of limit.

Also, these take place in an AU in which "Stephen" and Jon are both teenagers in South Carolina. And, uh, they've been sitting on my hard drive since December 2008. Eheh. (Clearly I am on some kind of out-of-season spring-cleaning kick.)

'Cause by tomorrow morning I'll have this thing beat / And everything will be back to the way that it was )

I love a good fake-fic meme.

Give me the title of a story I’ve never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got submitted to magazines, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I’d been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] tehlobster:

Post the first lines from each of your 25 most recent fanfic pieces and try to find a pattern.

Under the cut... )

(What say the rest of you? Any thoughts? Observations? Blatantly obvious patterns that you can't believe I haven't spotted, already?)

Meme time!

What do you think are the quote-unquote "trademarks" of the fiction that I write? What type of themes or characterization notes or quirks keep on manifesting in my writing? Essentially, what do you think is a stereotypically Ptah way of writing fic?

Here, let me get you started. )

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence/paragraph/whatever from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don’t mention anything else — this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

I did this for the comics, mixes, and fic I have in progress. There are kind of a lot of these.

The result is over on my blog ([livejournal.com profile] erinptah); follow the fake cut!

( Starring characters from fake news, Hellsing, Doctor Who, Strangers With Candy, Krazy Kat, Marimite, The Ambiguously Gay Duo, and The Lord of the Rings, not necessarily in that order. )
